As Covid-19 sweeps the world, many of us are finding out for the first time what it’s like to live in confinement and isolation. For the elderly, these conditions are often nothing new. And just as technology has helped us cope with lockdowns, it is also making it easier for us to grow old at home, says Susanne Dröscher, co-CEO of Swiss health tech CARU. The company makes a voice-activated emergency device that allows users to communicate remotely with their loved ones. The product, scheduled to launch in October, was rushed to market after health authorities recommended avoiding contact with the elderly to prevent infecting them.
