Tennis is one of the most popular sports in Switzerland with 53,000 licensed players and 900 clubs around the country. While it was one of the first sports to come back after the coronavirus lockdown was lifted, the COVID-19 crisis continues to exact a toll. The president of Swiss Tennis, René Stammbach, says his organization will take a deep financial hit but has “sufficient means to survive.” As for the major tournaments, followed so passionately among fans around the world, he doubts “we’ll see professional tennis this year.”
