Here’s how you can really help Beirut

Zahera Harb, a senior lecturer at City University of London, wounded her face during Beirut’s explosion last Tuesday. With at least 137 people killed, 5,000 wounded and hundreds still missing, the Lebanese journalist says that the government has made no plans yet to help the hundreds of thousands of people left homeless and without food supplies. While a sense of abandonment and mistrust of authorities grows stronger among the Lebanese, many citizens are urging international communities – including Switzerland – not to send aid to the state, but rather directly to charities.
